The Precursor plotline also never resolves satisfactorily. The mechanics of playing a Templar end up far too similar to the standard Assassin gameplay too, which is just wasted potential. It also portrays the Assassin's and Templars as basically just Evil and Good, with little to do with their actual philosophies. But the main story is both too short, and too rushed, glossing over too much of Shay's turn. The setting is still nice, and the side content is all fine (if a little lacking in meaty side missions like the Templar Keys in ACIV). Oh, and if you want a bit more insight, check up this little writeup I penned some weeks ago: Ī nice concept, but a deeply flawed execution of that concept. My rule of thumb is: if you enjoyed Black Flag, there's really no reason why you wouldn't love Rogue. It's a lot of fun, and I really think you should stick to Rogue, at least until it kicks into full gear. It also introduces a fair number of new, "inverted" mechanics - stalkers will be hunting you from rooftops and bushes, your enemies will use assassin tools against you - you can even get reverse boarded during ship combat. Missions are more diverse, with "setpiece"-style missions being the norm there's a welcome emphasis on parkour as a whole, and traversal is often more focused and well-designed. I don't want to spoil it more, but keep at it: Rogue's story is one of the best the franchise has to tell.Īs for the game itself, it essentially takes Black Flag's mediocre land-based gameplay, and improves it into something streamlined and fun. The story really kicks into gear after you reach Lisbon - once Shay's motivations are cemented and lead to his Templar turn. Rogue is one of my favorite Creed games, actually.
